The weekend before Turkey Day, Saturday, November 22, the CRG All-Stars will not be thinking about cranberry sauce and stuffing, but instead will be getting down and derby for the Carolina Charity Bout. You can support two local charities by watching some good 'ol roller derby. A portion of our proceeds from the bout will be donated to local charities to assist them with the extra funds they will need at the holidays. The first 50 emergency personnel with ID (EMTs, Police, Fire) will get in free at the November bout.
Dorton will be rockin' just two weeks later, on Sunday, December 7. Be sure to get to there early and see the newly formed CRG B-team, the Bootleggers, skate against the Mad Rollin' Dolls' B-team. Doors at 5. At 6:30, for the main event, the Carolina All-Stars will face the Dairyland Dolls, the all-stars from Madison, WI. That's two for the price of one! Just think of it as a little holiday treat to our devoted fans. The first 50 military personnel and veterans with ID will get in free.
 CRG Bound for Eastern Regionals
Carolina qualified for this year's Eastern Regionals Tournament, dubbed Derby in Dairyland, October 10-13 in Madison, WI. Placed as the #2 seed, Carolina will receive a bye for the first round. In the second round, CRG will play the winner of Boston v. Grand Raggidy in what will surely be one of many fierce bouts in a highly competitive division tournament.
The latest WFTDA rankings were released in July, which saw Carolina fall one place from #3 to #4 as Gotham bumps CRG, Rat City and Texas down one slot each with a leap from #5 to #2 after dominating their matchups at ECE.
CRG Teams Hit the Road
CRG defeated both opponents at the East Coast Extravaganza, held June 21 & 22 in Philadephia. Your all-stars dominated the Denver Roller Dolls with a 129 to 49 win on Saturday and edged out the Windy City Rollers 76 to 60 on Sunday in a highly defensive bout. July saw Carolina lose to the Cincinnati Rollergirls by a narrow margin of 74 to 69. With their home crowds cheering, Cinci dominated the first half of the bout. Carolina came back strong in the second period, keeping the scores tight, but Cinci pulled ahead in the final two jams, and secured their 5 point win.
In August, the Carolina All-Stars and CRG's newly formed B-team, the Carolina Bootleggers, traveled to Philly to compete against the Philly Roller Girls' All-Star team, the Liberty Belles, and their B-team, the Independence Dolls. In the opener, the Bootleggers put up a good fight in their first game ever, but the Independence Dolls took the bout 93 to 53. In the main event, the CRG All-Stars took out the Liberty Belles 107 to 86, with a particularly dominating performance by Carolina's offense, with several grand slams. Penalties were a definite factor, with Carolina scoring a total of 31 points for Liberty Belles in the penalty box. With both teams heading to Eastern Regionals, there is the potential for a rematch in October.
2008 Home Season Results
The 2008 Home Season was full of surprises. The Tai Chi-tahs fought valiantly but were taken out of the running for the Golden Skate after losing to the Trauma Queens and then to the Debutante Brawlers. Though the Trauma Queens' blocking pack was stronger than ever this year, it was the The Brawlers who proved to be the little team that could. The championship game was easily one of the hottest derby matches ever, with temperatures hitting triple digits. In spite of the extreme conditions, CRG's ladies in pink pulled through and gladly accepted the Golden Skate. The final score of the championship game was Brawlers 57 and Queens 50.
